    Center for Development Research publishes guidelines ‘Follow the Innovation: Participatory Testing and Adaptation of Agricultural Innovations in Uzbekistan’

    The Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn recently published the document ‘Follow the Innovation: Participatory Testing and Adaptation of Agricultural Innovations in Uzbekistan’. With these guidelines, ZEF wants to share its experience with a participatory research approach to the development and implementation of innovations, which was gathered within the interdisciplinary project “Economic and ecological restructuring of land and water in the region Khorezm (Uzbekistan)”. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and implemented in collaboration with local partners.

    Call for Applications: Art History Summer School, 22-31 March 2012/ Uzbekistan

    The Kunsthistorisches Institute in Florence - Max-Planck-Institute together with The Getty Foundation, Los Angeles, are organising the 2012 ASM Summer School, which will take place in Uzbekistan from 22 - 31 March 2012. It will focus on major historical monuments and the art productions of the territory today known as Uzbekistan, an area that for centuries played a central role in the trade routes connecting China to the Mediterranean and Europe. The summer school is part of the research program “Art, Space and Mobility in Early Ages of Globalization. The Mediterranean, Central Asia and the Indian Subcontinent 400-1650”.

    New EU project strengthens role of Uzbek & Azerbaijan universities in transfer of innovations into enterprise

    The overall objective of the TEMPUS-project „Enhancement of role of universities in transfer of innovations into enterprise“ (short: "UnIvEnt") is the introduction of research and application centres in Uzbek and Azerbaijan universities. This will improve the transfer of innovation and new technologies into industrial product developments. The project also aims to create an accessible information database of innovations at universities and improve the practice orientation of higher education.

    Uzbek astronomers discover new minor planet

    A previously unknown minor planet with a four-year rotation period around the Sun was discovered by Uzbek astronomers in 2007 and officially included in the International Minor Planet Catalog under the number 210271. The planet has been given the name Samarkand.

    New observatory opened in Andijan

    New observatory opened at the Babur park in the city of Andijan. It was created by the Astronomy Institute of the Uzbekistan Science Academy in cooperation with the International Babur Foundation and Andijan State University. Here, all conditions have been created for observing celestial bodies with high accuracy thanks to powerful telescopes and other equipment. These devices will help students of mathematics and astronomy faculties of universities in Ferghana, Andijan and Namangan regions, as well as young people who are interested in astronomy.

    Project news: Profile of potential host institutions in EECA

    The “People” is a specific Programme of the EU Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). The actions under the “People” Programme focus on mobility of researchers towards development of their scientific experience and career. The Programme is open to all domains of scientific and technological research and contains schemes for international mobility with Third Countries which are neither EU Member States (MS) nor Associated to FP7 Countries (AC).     Virtual Silk Road project’s council meets in Tashkent

    The regular meeting of the council of the NATO’s Virtual Silk Road project took place on 1st October 2008 in Tashkent. The event has been organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and NATO Science Committee. Specialists, experts and scholars from Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Britain, the Netherlands, Belarus, Norway, Hungary, Turkey and Armenia took part in the session.
