    Discussing the the future of innovation policy

    A new European Commission is about to take office, and an updated UK strategy for science and innovation is expected in the next few weeks, so this might be a good moment to debate the future of innovation policy. In an article published in The Guardian, Johan Schot, Director of the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex, raises the question whether 'innovation' can really be an end in itsself and what needs to be done to develop innovation policies that creatively tackle the societal challenges of the future.

    Tajik-German project CADEX investigates dust over Central Asia

    The dust over Central Asia plays a crucial role in Central Asia’s climate change. To understand this, knowledge about the dust’s properties and transport needs to be gained. On that account, the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) will conduct a joint measurement campaign until fall 2016. A cooperation agreement was signed by both partners whereby the basis for the joint Tajik-German project CADEX (Central Asian Dust Experiment) was set up.

    Thematic Workshop on Climate Change: Identification of Research Priorities for the EU-Eastern Partnership STI cooperation

    Following the decision of the 2nd EaP Panel on Research & Innovation meeting, the IncoNet EaP project has undertaken to organise three Thematic Workshops in order to identify relevant topics and sub-themes for the EU-EaP STI cooperation. In this context a Thematic Workshop on Climate Change will take place in Athens on 6-7 November 2014.

    EU Russia Year of Science 2014 Closing Conference – register now!

    Titled 'EU-Russia STI collaboration: Good practice examples from the Year of Science and beyond' the closing conference of the EU-Russia Year of Science 2014 will be the occasion to highlight the achievements of the Year of Science, present good practice from the areas of mutually beneficial cooperation and finally illustrate the potential for Science, Technology and Innovation cooperation in the future. Registration will be open from 6 October- 10 November at the latest via the Year of Science website. As the number of participants is restricted, registrations will be accepted on the principle of 'first come, first serve'.

    EuroTransBio announces 10th transnational call for proposals

    ETB is organising an annual joint calls for innovative near to the market R&D&I projects in all fields of modern biotechnology (health, agro/food, industrial biotech, environment, marine/aquatic solutions). Consortia have to be coordinated by an SME, include at least 2 enterprises from two different countries participating in ETB, and may include additional partners from research organisations. ETB encourages international collaboration between European and non-European partners. Hence, also non-European funding agencies are invited to join the network in order to support worldwide cooperation in biotechnology.

    IncoNets EaP and CA support twinning activities - call now open!

    IncoNet EaP and IncoNet CA, the 'STI International Cooperation Networks for Eastern Europe and Central Asia' will implement 'Twinning Grants' as a funding instrument – one of the core activities of these projects. Twinning itself has a long tradition in Europe as a an efficient instrument in capacity building processes. The IncoNet EaP and CA consortia plan to use this instrument to enhance STI cooperation and increase capacities on both sides. The grant scheme is envisaged to become a tool to develop sustainable cooperation among experienced EU and regional partners in the realm of Science, Technology and Innovation.

    INTERACT - International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic

    INTERACT is an infrastructure project under the auspices of SCANNET, a circumarctic network of 59 terrestrial field bases in northern Europe, Russia, US, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Scotland. The project specifically seeks to build capacity for research and monitoring in the European Arctic and beyond, and is offering access to numerous research stations through the Transnational Access program.
