    Ukraine and Georgia take part in EU Sustainable Energy Week

    The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is a month-long series of activities to build a secure energy future for Europe. It brings together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote initiatives to save energy and move towards renewables for clean, secure and efficient power. For the fifth year in a row Ukraine will join in: Between 12 and 17 June, the EU Delegation to Ukraine and their partners have organised a number of events across Ukraine, which showcase the energy efficiency potential of the country. Georgia is another EaP country to join the events in 2016.

    Horizon 2020 Association Workshop held in Georgia

    On 31 May 2016, a workshop about Georgia’s association with Horizon 2020, the EU's framework programme for research and innovation, was held at the Ministry of Education and Science. The event was organised by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the practical aspects of participation in Horizon 2020 by Georgian scientists with policy makers and organisations from the field of technology and innovation.

    Black Sea Horizon Grant Scheme to facilitate the participation of Black Sea countries in Brokerage Events

    This grant scheme financially supports the participation of local researchers from Black Sea countries in brokerage events related to Horizon2020 in the EU Member States or Associated Countries. Such events will allow researchers to network with EU consortia, to build-up partnerships for subsequent joint research activities and to make their institutions and/or their research networks better known.

    Georgia joins Horizon 2020

    Researchers and innovators from Georgia will now be able to participate in Horizon 2020, the EU's framework programme for research and innovation, under the same conditions as their counterparts from EU Member States and other associated countries. The agreement associating Georgia to Horizon 2020 was signed by Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, and Tamar Sanikidze, Georgian Minister for Education and Science, on 29 April 2016.

    Two new 'Sustainable Energy Information Centres' open in Moldova and Georgia

    The inauguration ceremony of the Moldova Sustainable Energy Information Centre took place on 15 April 2016. Housed in the Moldovan Agency of Energy Efficiency, the Chisinau Sustainable Energy Information Centre will serve as a hub for a number of initiatives by NGOs, businesses and education institutes. The Sustainable Energy Information Centre (SEIC) in Georgia opened on 22 April 2016. It is housed in the main hall of the Tbilisi City Hall, as an extension of the City Hall services already being provided. Both centres were set up with the support of INOGATE , the longest running energy technical assistance programme funded by the EU.

    Call for Applications: Scholarships for Doctoral Students from the Caucasus and Central Asia

    CIFE and the Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) start the PhD Support Programme 'The EU, Central Asia and the Caucasus in the International System' (EUCACIS). Funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Erasmus+ programme, the EUCACIS PhD Support Programme offers scholarships of 300 Euro per month for three years and a travel grant of up to 500 Euro for field research to excellent postgraduates who are working on a doctoral thesis in political science, contemporary history or economics on a topic related to the programme’s thematic focus at a university or academy of sciences in the Southern Caucasus or the wider Central Asia.

    Joint Call for Proposals by CNRS (France) and SRNSF (Georgia)

    On 18 April 2016, the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF) announced a joint call for proposals in the frame of 'International Programme for Scientific Cooperation' (PICS). PICS is a joint research programme aimed at supporting joint research projects carried out by two teams, one from CNRS and one from another country.     The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research will organise a launch event to further focus its activities in the countries of Eastern Europe and countries of the Eastern Partnership. The Workshop 'Building Bridges in Social Welfare Policy in Eastern Europe' will take place in Vienna on 19 September 2023 .     Academy Robert Bosch Fellowships at Chatham House

    Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs (UK), in partnership with the Robert Bosch Stiftung (Germany), hosts fellows from the 6 countries of the Eastern Partnership and Russia.The fellowship offers an opportunity for the next generation of scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to advance their knowledge of post-Soviet politics, develop research skills, contribute to Chatham House research, and build links with policy and academic communities in the UK, Germany and the EU more broadly.The fellows spend nine months working at Chatham House with the Russia and Eurasia Programme team.

    Belarus and Georgia agree to cooperate in Science and Technology

    An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in science and technology between Belarus and Georgia was signed on 22 March 2024 during the visit of Georgia's Prime Minister Mr. George Kvirikashvili to Minsk. In contrast to similar framework agreements signed by Belarus earlier, the one with Georgia does not contain the direct obligation of the parties to provide the financial support for joint activities, e.g. for implementing the joint R&D projects. It states however that the parties will develop a mechanism to ensure the implementation of joint of S&T projects.

    Grant Scheme to facilitate the participation of EaP countries in Brokerage Events

    This grant scheme financially supports the participation of local researchers from Eastern Partnership countries in brokerage events related to Horizon2020 in the EU Member States or Associated Countries.     Georgia will introduce German model of Higher Education

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili says Georgia will introduce the German model of higher education where the Government will fund the most needed professions, as 'Agenda.ge' reports. While meeting businessmen in capital Tbilisi, PM Kvirikashvili spoke about the necessity of a systemic reform of higher education in Georgia. He said Germany’s higher education system was the 'most effective' model and Georgia would adopt this model to develop the country’s tertiary education sector.

    The IncoNet EaP project has today announced an extension for its targeted call 'Grants & Coaching of EU-EaP Twinning Teams' , which will now will close on 22 January 2016. EU-Eastern Partnership teams active in the fields of 1. Climate Change, 1. Health or 3. Energy will be supported in preparing proposals for the Horizon 2020 calls of the Work Programme 2016-2017. With the new extended deadline the project especially hopes to give twinning teams that have already signalled their interest a chance to submit their applications on time.

    Results of Policy Mix Peer Review presented in Georgia

    The IncoNet EaP organised two so called 'Policy Mix Peer Reviews', one in Armenia and a second in Georgia. S&T policy mix peer reviews serve to assess the science system of a certain country, with the support of international experts (peers). On the basis of international experience and good practice with S&T governance, financing of research, etc. recommendations are given for improving the respective S&T system.

    'Environmental Policy Toolkit for Greening SMEs in EaP Countries' published

    The objective of the 'Environmental Policy Toolkit for SME Greening' – published in the frame of the OECD's EaP GREEN programme – is to help governments in the European Union’s Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) to design and implement key instruments to promote environmental compliance and green business practices among SMEs using the existing good practices in EU and other OECD countries. The Toolkit covers three categories of environmental policy instruments: regulatory simplification and incentives, informationbased tools, as well as financial and economic incentives.

    The IncoNet EaP and IncoNet CA projects promote international STI cooperation and research policy dialogue between the EU and its member states on the one hand, and the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia Countries on ther other. One of the projects' tasks is to collaborate with EU Innovation Platforms. In this context the Agency for the Promotion of European Research (APRE) organised the participation of innovative EaP and CA energy researchers in the 2014 SET Plan Conference. The event was held in Rome on 10-11 December under the auspices of the Italian Presidency of the European Union.

    European Commission launches negotiations with Georgia to join the Energy Community

    On 20 February 2014 the European Commission and Georgia launched negotiations for Georgia's accession to the Energy Community. The negotiations in Tbilisi were held in the presence of Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger, for the European Commission and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Vice-Prime Minister as well as Minister of Energy Kakha Kaladze, for Georgia. By becoming Member of the Energy Community and implementing EU energy legislation Georgia will have closer ties with EU's single energy market. This will attract investments and increase the financial sustainability of the energy sector.

    'eTwinning Plus' virtual classroom network starts in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine

    Inter-cultural competence, language and networking skills are prerequisites for successful international science cooperation. And you can't start early enough. The European Commission’s 'eTwinning' network, which has encouraged 100 000 schools in 33 European countries to talk to each other via the internet, has now been extended to schools in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

    Caucasus Research Resource Centers launch new blog in Georgian language

    The Caucasus Research Resource Center Georgia has launched a new blog in Georgian. The aim of the blog is to present the findings of CRRC's research, as well as answer questions about the social research methodology that the society might have. CRRC is a network of resource, research and training centers established in 2003 in the capital cities of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia with the goal of strengthening social science research and public policy analysis in the South Caucasus.

    On September 16, Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri during his official visit to Latvia. During the visit, the heads of Governments recognized the development of political relations of Latvia and Georgia in both, bilateral and multilateral co-operation forms.

    Information Day on S&T; cooperation in Tiblisi attracts 150 participants

    On 19 of June 2009 the Georgia National Science Foundation (GNSF) organized an Information Day in Tbilisi with the purpose to develop the international S&T; cooperation within the EU 7th Framework Programme (FP7) in the thematic priority Environment as wells in FP7 People programme.

    International Association of Academies of Sciences is the international non-governmental organization created in 1993 in Kiev by representatives of the national academies of sciences of 15 states of Europe and Asia with the purpose of joining efforts for decision of major scientific problems and creating new partnerships between researchers.
