Turkmen scientists attend brokerage event in Lisbon

The XIII World Congress of Rural Sociology, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal from 29 July to 4 August this year, was selected as a brokerage event for Turkmenistan scientists. The information and contacts on rural sociology were considered very important for the continuation of scientific reforms in the country in this field.
Two participants from Turkmenistan were selected to participate in the XIII World Congress of Rural Sociology: Prof. Dr. Ch. Amansahedov (Academy of Sciences) and R. Gadzhiyev (Academy of Sciences).

The congress gathered more than 1500 international scientists to discuss and share their views on the development of rural researches, possibilities for new cooperations and scientific exchange. All discussions were held in working groups, and the representatives from Turkmenistan made their presentation within the following sessions:

Prof. Dr. Ch. Amansahedov made a presentation titled “Melons and gourds growth process in arid conditions of Turkmenistan“, in working group 76B ("open stream", see final conference programme) and R. Gadzhiyev presented “Information and communication technology for remote control system in rural development", in working group 56 ("Technology, Social Networks and Rural Development").

During the breaks and free time of the congress, the Turkmen scientists had meetings with colleagues from European Universities and Research Centres. New possibilities for cooperation and projects were discussed with scientists  Sofia Bento (Portugal) and Audrey Richard-Ferroudji (France), Natasha Webster (Sweden), and José A. Aznar-Sánchez (Spain). A new project in the framework of EU funding was discussed in detail with Prof. Jose Gracio of the University of Aveiro (Portugal). After the meeting Prof. Jose Gracio decided to come to Turkmenistan this year in order to advance the cooperation.

During the meetings cooperation in agricultural research was planned and joint projects under the Horizon 2020 programme were prepared. The new suggestions and possibilities aroused great interest.

The participants from Turkmenistan collected scientific materials to be used in the social and rural development of the country, as well as in the development of "Rural Sociology" as a science subject related to research institutions in Turkmenistan.

The XIII World Congress of Rural Sociology had a great impact on increasing awareness for the role of rural sociology aspects in the development of agricultural science fields.
