International Scientific Practical Center for Thyroid Deceases will be created in Belarus

This project is an integrated part of joint initiative of the European Commission and UNDP. It is aimed at mitigating the negative consequences of Chernobyl catastrophe in Belarus. The budget of the project is 1,13 mln. Eur, of which the EC input exceeds 1mln. Eur.

The Center will be created jointly by the Ministry of Health Care of Belarus and International Fund “Assistance to people suffering from radio induced thyroid cancer “Arnika”. The partners in the project: Republican Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Balneotherapy, United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Belarusian Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education, Belarusian Red Cross, Republican Center of Thyroid Tumors (Minsk) and Republican Scientific Practical Center of Radiation Medicine and Human  Ecology (Gomel). International Partner – Hospital of Nuclear Medicine, Wuerzburg University, Germany. 

It’s expected that the Center will be located in Minsk. Currently, different proposals of setting up are being discussed.  It’s foreseen that the Center will serve over 5 thousands young patients who suffer from thyroid cancer and need a special rehabilitation for fertility preservation. Additional 15 thous. patients with the other thyroid deceases could be consulted in the Center.
