Presenting EU-Central Asia STI policy dialogue cooperation at Astana Economic Forum

Since 2008, the Astana Economic Forum has been the main annual industry conference in Kazakhstan. In 2013 about 9,000 participants from120 countries took part in the event. In addition to Kazakhstan's President Nazarbayev, the speakers' list also included current and former government officials, senior representatives of international organisations, companies and associations as well as recognised experts in economics.
The mission of the Astana Economic Forum is to unite economists and other experts, as well as representatives of the public, in discussing socio-economical, legal and cultural issues of Kazakhstan and the world’s economic development. This offers a unique setting to present succesful international cooperation projects and their achievements.

The consortum members of the EU funded FP7 project IncoNet CA/SC were invited to this forum by the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies and by the National Agency for Technological Development (NATD) to present the results of IncoNETs for Central Asia.

The Economic Forum event VIII Innovative Congress, which was organised by NATD an the Kazakh IncoNet project partners InExCB-Kz, featured a special session titled 'EU-Kazakhstan Innovation through Cooperation'. For this event senior politicy stakeholders from the EUand Kazakhstan, including two representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), had been invited to give short lectures. The BMBF representatives also used the Astana Economic Forum for a parallel series of meetings with high-level German contacts in Kazakhstan.

At the Forum the IncoNet CA/SC project also had the opportunity to exhibit the project-related results (reports, activities, etc.) and information from other project partners at some specialised exhibition booths. The stand of the IncoNet CA/SC project was visited by President Nazarbayev and by the Industry Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Issekeshev in person.
