Moldovan Agency for Innovation and Technology Transfer: 5 years of activity

On October 29, 2009 the Agency for Innovation and Technology Transfer (AITT) celebrated five years of activity. AITT is the first organization created with the purpose of stimulation and implementation of innovation and technology transfer mechanisms in the Republic of Moldova, under the supervision of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM).

During this period, the main direction of AITT’s activity is oriented towards supporting the society’s modernization process and improvement of social and economic environment by implementing the scientific research results in new competitive products and services. The organization implements policies in the field of innovation defined by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and supervise the activity of the Scientific and Technological Parks „Academica”, „InAgro”, „Micronanoteh” and the Innovation Incubator “Inovatorul” which represent the main components of the innovation infrastructure. The residents of these entities benefit of big preferences, allowing them to commercialize their results, thus creating new opportunities for them. Also, these scientific parks and innovation incubator are an important part of the scientific-educational cluster “UnivER Science” created recently within ASM.

In order to promote the scientific results from research units to interested business entities, AITT is engaged in organizing exhibitions, conferences and workshops with national and international impact. On October 9 this year, the Agency for Innovation and Technology Transfer jointly with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the European Commission (TAIEX) organized the workshop on “FP7 - Opportunities for SMEs.” The event was organized in accordance to the Action Plan “Moldova Knowledge Excellence Initiative” aiming to develop Moldovan scientific potential and competitiveness towards integration into the European Research Area and enhancing participation in European research programmes. In this context, the workshop had as main aim raising awareness of Moldovan SMEs about the opportunities provided by FP7, as well as bringing to Moldova successful SMEs from European Union countries which would be interested in presenting their stories in Framework Programmes and initiate some partnerships on the spot.

Fostering international cooperation in the field of innovation and technology transfer represents a priority of AITT’s activities. Currently, AITT jointly with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova are preparing an application for the Enterprise Europe Network.
