In the Republican pathologoanatomic center opened first in the system of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan laboratory of cell biotechnology. According to UT Director of the the Republican pathologoanatomic center (RPAC), academician Malika Abdullakhodzhaeva: "Stem cells - is an ancestor of all human organism cells, which make up the various tissues and organs. In other words, it is a building material for the human organism.
"There's a pattern: the older the person, the fewer stem cells in the body, and thus higher risk of contracting a disease that is difficult to treat. Application of these cells in the treatment called stem cell therapy, which in theory is the panacea for all illnesses. However, in order to use it fully, scientists have to develop safe methods of the treatment ", - she added.
In her view, among the top-priority tasks of the center is training of specialists in the field of cellular technologies, improvement of existing methods for the isolation and cultivation of cells.
"We have already managed to obtain cells that can be used to accelerate a process of healing of skin deep burns. Now we work on the production of cells of heart and transversal-striated muscle, liver, cartilage and bone tissue. We intend to delve into studying the mechanism of action of stem cells in treating various diseases ", - said M. Abdullakhodzhaeva.
She has also answered to the question how soon scientists of RPAC will be ready to transfer their works to the doctors in charge of the case.
"On the specific date is too early to say. But, judging by the extent of preparatory work, I think, cell therapy will be applied in the republic in 2010", - said the doctor- pathologoanatomist.
As already reported 12.uz, RPAC creates a bank to store stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood.
"It already works. It has a reserve of stem cells for scientific researches, however, derived from bone marrow. Later, when cell therapy will be extended in the country, we will take the deposit of stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood, from the population- people", - concluded the head of the Republican pathologoanatomic center.
