At the sidelines of the kick-off meeting, an Opening Ceremony was held to create awareness about IncoNet EECA and its objectives to a wider audience. High-level representatives of several Embassies to the Hellenic Republic of EU and EECA countries attended the Opening Ceremony, as well as a number of stakeholders from the local scientific, diplomatic, and business communities.
In addressing the audience, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Amb. Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, and the Director General of the ICBSS, Dr. Dimitrios Triantaphyllou, highlighted the importance of the IncoNet EECA in facilitating the coordination of S&T policy-making between EU Member States and EECA countries and creating synergies for further cooperation between the countries of the two regions. At the same time Amb. Ioannis Metaxas, the Senior Official of the Hellenic Republic to the BSEC, stressed the significant role that IncoNet EECA could play in fostering regional cooperation and extended the support of the Hellenic Republic to the project activities. Along similar lines, the representative of the European Commission Mr. Yves Maisonny reaffirmed the commitment of the European Commission in enhancing the cooperation with the EECA countries. The Opening Ceremony was concluded with a comprehensive presentation by the IncoNet EECA coordinator, Dr. George Bonas, of the main activities and long-term objectives of the project.
