XFEL Project Needs Extra EUR150 Million with Russia’s Contribution of EUR 60 Million

On 4 April 2024 the Director of the Department for international integration of the Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation Igor Protsenko declared that the XFEL project devoted to X-ray laser-based on free electrons investigations would require extra financial provisions, which account for EUR 150 million with the contribution of the Russian Federation of EUR 59.2 million.

X-ray Free-Electron Laser is 3 km long construction, which is planned to be created in Germany on the basis of scientific center DESY in Hamburg. At the launch stage the cost of the project was assessed at  EUR 1.082 billion with participation of 12 countries. The Russian Federation has joined the group in 2009 with a share of 26.24%, which amounts EUR 250 million.

Extra financial resources will be allocated by ROSNANO on behalf of the Russian Federation during the period of 2012 - 2014.
