Embassies of the EU member states and some Moldovan organizations, including the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, built up in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau a “European town in miniature” comprised of 50 tents. Tourist and business opportunities, specifics of national dishes were presented, cultural activities and contests were organized and promotional materials distributed. The EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Mr. Štefan Füle, took part in the event as a guest of honor.
The Academy of Sciences of Moldova took the opportunity to bring science closer to the society and also raise awareness on the opportunities offered by the EU’s 7th Framework Programme. The tent of the ASM hosted a valuable exhibition with international scientific publications, authored by Moldovan researchers and their EU counterparts, as well as the results of joint research projects. This was completed by a number of distinctions, awards, golden, silver and bronze medals and diplomas obtained at international renowned exhibitions and salons by researchers from various R&D organizations.
The major attraction of the tent was the presence of FP7 National Contact Points, which offered relevant and competent information on FP7 funding opportunities to everyone interested in research and development, spread widely FP7 leaflets and EU*Research magazines, and as a result established some valuable contacts with NGOs and SMEs representatives.
