Context of research policy

At present the carried out state scientific and technical policy of the Republic of Uzbekistan is directed on concentration of its efforts of available scientific and technical potential of the republic for the solution of socio-economic problems of Uzbekistan in conditions of gradual transition to socially oriented market economy. The approaches, appropriate to the transitive period, for the development of science and technology have been offered, and the state scientific and technical programs on priority directions of development of science and technologies have been formed and pursued.

Research policy: objectives and priorities

At present the state science and technological policy of Uzbekistan is directed on concentration of its efforts of the country scientific and technological potential for solution of social-economic problems in conditions of gradual transition to market economy.
The basis for defining the priority directions of science and technology development are priorities of economic and social development of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

• Formation and realization of social and economic policy itself;
• Agro-industrial complex;
• Fuel and power engineering complex;
• Mineral and feed stock complex;
• Health care and ecology;
• Information technologies and management.

Policy making and coordination

The Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan # ПП-436 dated 7th August, 2006 to set up a Committee on Development Coordination of Science and Technology at the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and to define the basic tasks of the Committee as follows:

Working out the priority direction development of science and technology with taking into consideration the tasks of socio-economic and political development of the country, achievements of a modern science, in collaboration with Ministries and Departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

Provision of coordination activity of the research institutes and organizations, design organizations, Ministries and Departments of Higher Education Institutes, Academy of Sciences on realization of priority directions of science and technology development;

Organization of effective monitoring on scientific and technical programs and projects realization, and also the application of research work results in different economy, production, education fields;

Development the mutually beneficial international scientific and technical collaboration, involvement of foreign investments in the scientific sphere of the country, assistance to the scientific institutes, scientists and experts of the Republic in widely participation in International Programs. 

National research programmes

In Uzbekistan mechanism of realization scientific and technological and innovative activity based on a program-targeted principle and ensuring a high degree of sustainability on the chain "fundamental researches" - "applied researches " - "innovative activities" has been created and realized.
