Characterisation of the research system

The system, accepted in Uzbekistan, of the state support to fundamental and applied researches as a system of grants on pursuing innovative development works assumes orientation on final scientific and technological results.

Research indicators

The priorities of development science and technology of the republic are formed in view of priorities of economic and social development of the country of Uzbekistan and provide creation and development advanced technologies ensuring manufacture of import-substituting, competitive production in Uzbekistan, pursuing fundamental researches on crucial scientific directions in the context of modern trends of development of the world science.

Research performers

Main R&D institutions and organizations:

  • Research complex of the republic includes 362 institutions of academic, higher educational medical, agricultural sphere,
  • 101 research institute,
  • 55 research labs of higher educational establishments,
  • 65 design organisation,
  • 32 scientific and production associations and experimental enterprises.

R&D Research Staff:

  • 33,600 persons are engaged in the R&D sphere.
  • Doctorates among research staff - 2,300
  • Candidates among research staff – 8,600
  • Number of postgraduate students – 2,200

Research funding system

State programs of basic researches and scientific and technological development works, innovative and tender programs are financed by funds of state budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan, annually allocated by "Science" budget lines. Volume of budget financing for a coming year is designed on the basis of priority trends of science and technology, established in accordance with the priorities of social and economic development of the country.
