On this page, incrEAST provides an overview of the research and technology potential of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan has just started to restore the National Academy of Sciences, which was liquidated during presidency of the previous president of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov. As soon as it is running again, it will implement the main priorities of the Government and President of the country and will give new impulse to the development of science in Turkmenistan. The present task of the Turkmen scientists is to find training for young researchers at foreign scientific and research centres and to establish close co-operation with prestigious universities in Europe.

The implementation of these tasks is very difficult because during Niyazov’s presidency all textbooks in Russian and other foreign languages were completely destroyed. Restoration in the field of education and science has started but will take time.
