    Digital Agenda: €5 million EU funding helps turn the ancient Silk Road into ultra-fast research and education highway

    The European Commission helps to increase the internet capacity available to researchers in the Central Asia region (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan). With the Commission's €5 million contribution to the Central Asia Research and Education Network (CAREN), the ancient Silk Road has been upgraded to a 21st century high-speed data highway for research and education.

    Kyrgyz scientists have patented seven inventions in the field of nanotechnology

    Despite the difficult situation of science in Kyrgyzstan, the domestic scientists patented seven inventions in the field of nanotechnology, the head of the Nanotechnology Laboratory of the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the National Academy of Sciences of the KR Saadat Sulaymankulova said at the international workshop "Prospects of Nanotechnology in the Central Asia", held recently in Bishkek.

    The IncoNet EECA Seminar "The way to Europe" for scientists of Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan for participation in the FP7 (23-25 May, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan)

    The seminar was organized by the National Coordination Center of the Kyrgyz Republic. The seminar's main objective was to provide participants with the necessary information on the Seventh Framework Program of EU, to raise knowledge at all stages of participation in FP7: from reception of the information and a formulation of scientific idea before occurrence in the international consortium, application and realization of the joint project with the European partners. The representatives of the Delegation of the European Commission attended the seminar.

    Presidents of EurAsEC (Eurasian Economic Community) member states decided to create International Center of High Technologies

    At the last meeting of the heads of EurAsEC member states in Moscow on 4 February it was decided to create International Center of High Technologies. According to the experts, the activities of the future Center should be aimed at joint development and realization of S&T programs and innovative projects that has to support creation of the EurAsEC common research area and attract a wide range of scientists and experts.

    International Association of Academies of Sciences is the international non-governmental organization created in 1993 in Kiev by representatives of the national academies of sciences of 15 states of Europe and Asia with the purpose of joining efforts for decision of major scientific problems and creating new partnerships between researchers.     Virtual Silk Road project’s council meets in Tashkent

    The regular meeting of the council of the NATO’s Virtual Silk Road project took place on 1st October 2008 in Tashkent. The event has been organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and NATO Science Committee. Specialists, experts and scholars from Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Britain, the Netherlands, Belarus, Norway, Hungary, Turkey and Armenia took part in the session. Uzbekistan telecommunications and information technologies were being intensively introduced in all spheres.
