    The EU's role in the South Caucasus – a report by the European Policy Centre

    The linked report summarises the views of Philippe Lefort, the EU’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, as well as those of Bulgarian MEP Evgeni Kirilov, who drafted a European Parliament report on the South Caucasus, and of Dennis Sammut, executive director of the London Information Network on Conflicts and State-Building. The European Policy Centre (EPC) is an independent, not-for-profit think tank. Members of the EPC comprise companies, professional and business federations, trade unions, diplomatic missions, regional and local bodies, as well as NGOs.

    Info on two mathematics and ICT conferences in Armenia 2011 now available

    Two international S&T conferences will be held in Yerevan, Armenia in September 2011: The 5th International Conference “Harmonic Analysis and Approximations” will this year be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of academician Norair Arakelian. In ICT the "Eighth International Conference on Computer Science and Information Technologies (CSIT 2011)" is looking forward to welcoming visitors from Armenia and abroad.     New medical genetics project to support Armenia's integration into the European Research Area

    Integration of the South Caucasus countries into ERA is one of the priorities of EU's European Neighbourhood Policy. This is the objective of ERAWIDE initiative aimed at reinforcing the cooperation capacity of a prominent R&D centre in these countries by providing the possibilities to improve its research activities within the thematic priorities of FP7. The government of the Republic of Armenia recommended the Center of Medical Genetics and Primary Health Care (CMG) due to its high reputation, broad international contacts, participation in FP7, and the importance of the top-level research in Medical Genetics for general population.

    Armenia: CANDLE project aims to advance natural discoveries using light emission

    CANDLE is a project to create a source of third generation synchrotron radiation in Armenia, which was highly assessed by international expert commissions. Issues related to the implementation of scientific project were discussed on 18 August 2010 at the meeting of the program coordination board chaired by the Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

    Belarus, Armenia to boost science and technology cooperation

    This spring was marked by several steps to boost the bi-lateral cooperation in science and technology between Belarus and Armenia. In March, the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus and the State Committee for Science at the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia concluded an agreement aimed at development of the S&T cooperation.

    From November 15 till December 25, 2008 The 3rd E-Content Contest was conducted in Yerevan, which was devoted to 500th anniversary of Armenian Printing. 377 works were presented at the contest, 30% more than at previous contests.

    Presidents of EurAsEC (Eurasian Economic Community) member states decided to create International Center of High Technologies

    At the last meeting of the heads of EurAsEC member states in Moscow on 4 February it was decided to create International Center of High Technologies. According to the experts, the activities of the future Center should be aimed at joint development and realization of S&T programs and innovative projects that has to support creation of the EurAsEC common research area and attract a wide range of scientists and experts.

    A web-portal of the International Association of Academies of Sciences is opened

    International Association of Academies of Sciences is the international non-governmental organization created in 1993 in Kiev by representatives of the national academies of sciences of 15 states of Europe and Asia with the purpose of joining efforts for decision of major scientific problems and creating new partnerships between researchers.     SME DNC Armenia Member of the Enterprise Europe Network

    In 2007, the tender was announced to select partner organizations for the Euro Info Center, and the proposal presented by the Fund “Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Development National Center of Armenia” (SME DNC of Armenia) at the tender has been approved by the European Commission. As a result, the SME DNC of Armenia as the host partner organization became the member of the renamed “Enterprise Europe Network” in 2008.

    Virtual Silk Road project’s council meets in Tashkent

    The regular meeting of the council of the NATO’s Virtual Silk Road project took place on 1st October 2008 in Tashkent. The event has been organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and NATO Science Committee. Specialists, experts and scholars from Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Britain, the Netherlands, Belarus, Norway, Hungary, Turkey and Armenia took part in the session. Uzbekistan telecommunications and information technologies were being intensively introduced in all spheres.
