With the aim to further develop the scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and EU Member States and also ehance Uzbek participation in the Seventh Framework Program(FP7), the Indo-Uzbek Centre on Promotion Scientific and Technical Cooperation and the Committee for Coordination of S&T Development under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan organised the Information Day "Path to Europe: The Seventh Framework Program of the European Union on Research and Technological Development, FP7".
The event was organised in the frame of the FP7 IncoNet EECA project. It was held on September 23, in the large “Silk Road ” hall of the “Dedeman Silk Road” Hotel in Tashkent.
During this event opportunities for the participation of scientists and experts from the Republic of Uzbekistan in FP7 projects within the research priorities NMP and KBBE were presented.
More than 70 scientists and experts involveds in NMP and KBBE from 19 research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Republic of Uzbekistan and other institutes of Higher Education took part in the event. Among the participants were also representatives of regional universities (Samarqand and Bukhara) and private organisations. During the event FP7 promotional materials were disseminated and participants were asked to complete the Information Day Evaluation Forms.
The intoductory speeches were given by Dr. Оdilkhuja Parpiev - Executive Director of The Committee for Coordination of S&T Development, Prof. Bakhtier Ibragimov - General Scientific Secretary of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Prof. Мadjit. Karimov - Vice Minister of High and Secondary Specialized Education Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Prof. Erkin Zakhidov - NCP FP7 of Uzbekistan.
To realise this Information Day experts from Germany, Poland and Kazakhstan had been invited. After opening ceremony the IncoNet EECAproject was presented by Dr. Zygmunt Krasinski - Work Package Leader and Deputy Director of the National Contact point for research programs of the Institute of Fundamental Technological Researches, Polish Academy of Sciences. He also gave a presentation on basic rules for participation and financial issues in FP7 focusing on possibilities of participation in FP7 projects for Uzbek/CA participants.
The head of the Department for International S&T Cooperation of the Committee for Coordination of S&T Development – Dr. Rustam Saidov presented information on the basic review of participation of Scientific Community of Uzbekistan in the Framework Programs of the EU. He described in detail the participation of Uzbekistan in the indicated programs and presented the analysis of the reasons of decreasing the participation of the Uzbek scientists and experts in FP7. 
The leader of the International Group of the Karlstruhe Institute fur Technologie – Dr. Helmut Rempp gave an overview on FP7 NMP with an emphasis on calls for 2010-2011. The S&T potential of Uzbekistan in NMP, conditions in the creation of new materials, and also laser technology on processing metal and nano particles in Uzbekistan were presented by Prof.Erkin Zakhidov, Dr.R. A. Ganeev and Dr. Ilkham Khusainov.
Dr. Altynshash Jaxybaeva from InExCB-Ex made her presentation an overview of participation possibilities in FP7 KBBE and calls for 2010-2011 and also held a speech on «Mobility of the researchers as an instrument for development of R&D cooperation». Prof. L.A. Gafurova from Tashkent State Agrarian University presented potential and conditions for research development of Uzbekistan in the field of agriculture.
The event was a good occasion for discussions/consultations and the exchange of practices between experts and participants. Uzbek scientists were encouraged to use the FP7 mobility instruments. The problems related to consortium building and partner search for new proposals were discussed. Prof. Zygmunt Krasinski and Dr. Helmut Rempp expressed that they are ready to support Uzbek scientists in finding partners from Poland, Germany and other EU Member States.
In the conclusion it was underlined that there is room for increasing Uzbek participation in FP7. The participants expressed their satisfaction with the presentations that have allowed them to get more qualified information of FP7 participation rules, focusing on research priorities NMP and KBBE.
